Languages meet sport

With great satisfaction we would like to share the information with regard to the fact that during the conference entitled “Languages meet sport” we presented our project of EuroLang 2012. Learning a language through sport as well as getting to know the culture of other nations is supported by the European Union within the project entitled „Life Long Learning”.

Sport constitutes a certain type of a dictionary, as long as we adhere to certain rules. It helps, especially the young people to get to know themselves as well as the mutual culture differences and finally it helps to build unity amongst Europeans. The Program entitled “Languages meet sport” constitutes the form of the connection of the process of learning of a language with the multicultural dialogue conveyed via sport.

During the two day discussions held in Triest (Italy) it has turned out that sport is an amazing and a very easy way to encourage Europeans to learn foreign languages and exchange opinions. We have had a great opportunity to convince all of the participants that sport is a value which teaches us to adhere to principles, respect and tolerate national culture diversity as well as the knowledge, which constitutes the foundation of the unifying Europe.

For two days, the city of Trieste, which respects the diversity and which is open to various people, religions as well as sport, we have been enjoying great hospitality.

We would like to thank all of the conference participants for taking part within the conference and we await next year’s meeting during the second conference entitled “Languages meet sport”.

Project "Euro 2012" is addressed to participants, visitors and football fans coming to the European Football Championship, which will be hosted by Poland and Ukraine in the summer 2012.

Apart from logistical support (accommodation, travel, stay) the participants will need practical language guide and cultural information package, helping them to participate in Euro 2012 and move in hosting countries without communicative barriers.

The aim of the project will be to develop comprehensive didactic materials related to Polish and Ukrainian languages and culture: on-line language courses and practical information guide tending to present their specific features.
