Ukraine supports the EUROLANG

The last week of January has been very beneficial for the  Eurolang 2012 project. The meetings in Lviv, Donetsk and Kiev have resulted in establishing the cooperation with local authorities and different key players who are responsible for the preparation of Euro 2012 events in Ukraine.

One of the main objectives of our visit was  promoting the project and finding the partners who would spread the information about the Eurolang  2012 project in Ukraine. To achieve this objective we have, among others, met the representatives of the National News Agency UKRINFORM. The Eurolang 2012 project creators and the Agency representatives have decided to cooperate and support the promotion of the Euro 2012, the project and Ukraine itself.

The issues connected with the exchange of information, dissemination of the project in Ukraine and promotion of entities organizing the Euro 2012 events by the project team have been discussed in the Ukrainian Ministry of Family, Youth and Sport Affairs, the Euro 2012 Coordination Office at the Ukrainian Cabinet, the Euro 2012 Department at the Ukrainian Football Federation, as well as the Lviv City Council and the National University of Ivan Franka in Lviv.

The press conferences in the Ukrainian capital, Lviv and Donetsk have been widely discussed in the Ukrainian media. The visit to Donetsk resulted in new solutions for the  Eurolang 2012 online course of the Ukrainian language. The  linguistic specifics of Donetsk, where more citizens speak Russian than Ukrainian, has been taken into account. The Russian speaking users of the course will not only receive a translation of the course materials, but also will have the chance to learn basic Ukrainian.

The meeting with Mychajło Dubiak , the author of an illustrated dictionary „The language of Football”, the candidate for doctor’s degree at the National University of Ivan Franka in Lviv  - privately a keen amateur-football player and fan , turned out to be unusual. Soon you will see a sample of his work on the Eurolang 2012 website.

Not only those, who are directly connected with the organization of the Europeann Football Championships have expressed their interest in the project during our visit to Ukraine. We have experienced a great enthusiasm of the Ukrainian partners and openness of the media, scientists and football fans. We are convinced of the efficiency and great support from our Ukrainian friends within the promotion, exchange of information and cooperation during the realization of the  Eurolang 2012 project.

Project "Euro 2012" is addressed to participants, visitors and football fans coming to the European Football Championship, which will be hosted by Poland and Ukraine in the summer 2012.

Apart from logistical support (accommodation, travel, stay) the participants will need practical language guide and cultural information package, helping them to participate in Euro 2012 and move in hosting countries without communicative barriers.

The aim of the project will be to develop comprehensive didactic materials related to Polish and Ukrainian languages and culture: on-line language courses and practical information guide tending to present their specific features.
