EURO 2012

The residence centres supervised by UEFA

The representatives of UEFA and the EURO 2012 Poland company will visit the Polish Euro 2012 residence centres for the last time. After this visit final decisions concerning the selection of resorts for the European championships will be made.

Currently the resorts in three provinces: mazowieckie, warmińsko-mazurskie and pomorskie are being visited. The schedule is tight: the director of UEFA Lukas Achermann and Tomasz Szulc, who is responsible for the preparation and selection of residence centres in the EURO 2012 Poland company, will visit Polish resorts within only a few days. In the Pomorze region they will visit seven resorts. They will also view the building-site of the stadium in Gdańsk-Letnica.

There will also be a chance to rest in the most beautiful parts of Hel. – For Sunday we have planned a visit to the Hel Peninsula and a ship cruise to Gdańsk through the Gulf of Gdańsk. On that occasion we would like to present to Lukas an alternative way of transport. During Euro 2012 the fans may stay on the peninsula and they will not need to use a car or train to get to the stadium. They will be able to reach Gdańsk much faster using the sea route. Before his departure at 4 p.m. we would also like to take him to the stadium building-site – said Zbigniew Weinar the vice director of the President of Gdańsk Office, who is responsible for Sport Policy and Euro 2012.

In the mid-2010 UEFA will publish a guide to Polish and Ukrainian residence centres. It will include up to 20 offers of Polish resorts and it will be distributed among all the UEFA Football Federations.

Project "Euro 2012" is addressed to participants, visitors and football fans coming to the European Football Championship, which will be hosted by Poland and Ukraine in the summer 2012.

Apart from logistical support (accommodation, travel, stay) the participants will need practical language guide and cultural information package, helping them to participate in Euro 2012 and move in hosting countries without communicative barriers.

The aim of the project will be to develop comprehensive didactic materials related to Polish and Ukrainian languages and culture: on-line language courses and practical information guide tending to present their specific features.
